The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, the next-generation of America's iconic supercar, has been spotted testing in prototype form on a public road in the U.S. A passenger in a passing vehicle managed to film this short video clip of the heavily disguised prototype and was gracious enough to upload it to Youtube. While most of the car remains concealed, we can gather a few more telling details from this latest clip than we saw in our previous spy shots. We get a good sense of the car’s overall proportions out on the road and a look at the rear section shows that the exhaust pipes are now arranged closer to each other than on the outgoing model.
We can also clearly see a sharper angle where the A-pillar meets the roof, which should translate to a much more aggressive look for the new ‘Vette. Due in showrooms in the second half of next year as a 2014 model, Chevrolet’s new Corvette, the C7, won't be a completely revolutionary design, but it will be largely new, and it will almost certainly get some new engines. A seven-speed manual, just like the 2012 Porsche 911, is also expected. Downsizing is the name of the game, with the C7 expected to feature a smaller footprint (the area enclosed by its wheels) than the outgoing C6.
Engines, too, are likely to be downsized, with the base unit expected to be a direct-injected 5.5-liter V-8. Performance models like the track-focused Z06 and flagship ZR1 should keep their respective 7.0-liter and supercharged 6.2-liter V-8s, however. Importantly, designers will finally address one of the biggest complaints of the current model by giving the new car a much more refined and tech-infused cabin. Look out for a large LCD center console display with touch-screen capability, as well as a configurable instrument cluster. Production of the car will once again take place at GM's plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
