2014 Hyundai Genesis Spy Shots. The second generation of Hyundai’s award-winning Genesis is approaching the end of its development, with the latest prototypes revealing the final shape of the new luxury sedan. The car is scheduled to be revealed at the end of this year before reaching showrooms early next as a 2014 model, giving the outgoing Genesis a six-year life cycle. This time around, however, Hyundai has greater global ambitions for its Genesis. This is reflected in the sleek and somewhat elegant styling, which should appeal more to customers in Europe. The current model is mainly sold in North America and parts of Asia. The design shows the latest evolution of Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture styling language, though we can also see some influences from the Kia K9/Quoris flagship sedan sold overseas.
This makes sense as Kia design chief and now president Peter Schreyer has been appointed as design chief for sister brand Hyundai as well. Key Schreyer traits include the smooth surfaces, jewel-like headlights, long and imposing hood, and short overhangs. Look for modern touches such as LED elements in the headlights and advanced camera and radar monitoring systems. With Hyundai having updated the Genesis’ powertrain lineup only last year, expect similar numbers for the new 2014 model. This means the base Genesis will come with a 3.8-liter V-6 rated at 333 horsepower, and the range-topper, possibly keeping its R-Spec label, will continue with a 5.0-liter V-8 rated at 429 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic will continue as standard and it's possible a new diesel option will be offered overseas.
Underpinning the car is a revised version of the current Genesis’ rear-wheel-drive platform, however engineers are focused on improving the handling and dynamics. Hyundai is in the process of constructing a new Nürburgring test center and has already starting running prototypes for its 2014 Genesis on the famous German race track. All-wheel drive will also be available for the first time. The move is to help bring the car’s handling and durability in line with that of its German rivals while also helping to differentiate it from the more luxurious Equus, which is tuned more for comfort. Inside, expect the usual array of premium materials, climate control air-conditioning, and the latest in infotainment and connectivity. Hyundai recently previewed its next-generation Blue Link telematics and infotainment system, complete with Apple Siri voice-activation and Eyes Free as well as Google Maps navigation services.
Look for more Internet services as well on future Hyundai models, with full access to popular entertainment features like Pandora, HD Radio and SIRIUSXM. Key rivals for the Genesis include the Acura TL, Cadillac XTS, BMW 5-Series, Audi A6, Lexus GS and Mercedes-Benz E Class. Look for the 2014 Hyundai Genesis to possibly make its local debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show or 2014 Detroit Auto Show, with sales to start shortly after. A new generation of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe should follow roughly two years down the track.2014 Hyundai Genesis Spy Shots.
