2015 Chevrolet Cruze Spy Shots. Despite only hitting the market in the 2011 model year, the Chevrolet Cruze will soon be updated with an all-new design. Prototypes for the second-generation model have just been spied cold-weather testing in Northern Europe and reveal many telling details about the new compact sedan. The new Cruze is expected to land in the fall of 2014, making it a 2015 model. The car will be slightly longer than the current model, with most of the increase centering on the rear section. This should translate to more space for rear-seat passengers and additional storage in the trunk.
Though General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] engineers have attempted to disguise the prototype so that it resembles a Chevrolet Sonic, the car’s dimensions and what we already know about the automaker’s future styling confirm this is in fact the new Cruze. Influencing the look of the new 2015 Cruze is 2012’s Chevrolet Tru 140S concept car. The swoopy front section and tail-light configuration matches nicely with what we see on the concept. In addition, the Tru 140S concept may even spawn a new Cruze coupe based on this second generation of the Cruze sedan. Production of the 2015 Cruze will continue at GM’s plant in Lordstown, Ohio, where the current model has been assembled since 2010.
The car will also be built at plants in South Korea and Australia. Underpinning the car will be an upgraded version of the current model’s Delta II platform, possibly dubbed D2XX, which will replace both the Delta II and Theta platforms in the GM portfolio. D2XX will spawn everything from hatchbacks to crossovers and will feature in the next generation of the Chevy Volt and Cadillac ELR extended-range electric cars, as well as in the next Buick Verano, Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and Opel Astra sold overseas. As for the 2015 Cruze’s powertrain lineup, expect the current offerings to carry over with only minor improvements.
