2014 BMW 4-Series Coupe Spy Shots (With Interior). The coupe version of the sixth-generation F30 BMW 3-Series sedan has been spotted once again in prototype form, this time appearing much closer to its final production form. We can thank the recent reveal of the BMW 4-Series Coupe concept for allowing BMW’s test team to let its guard down a little, but also for finally confirming that the new coupe will in fact be called a 4-Series and no longer a 3-Series Coupe. To help further differentiate its two-door models from its four-door lineup, as well as allow for the introduction of a range of new models and bodystyles, BMW is adopting a naming strategy where its more practical models such as sedans, wagons and Gran Turismos all have name starting with odd numbers, while the more dynamic models such as coupes, convertibles and Gran Coupes get even-numbered names. It’s not clear what BMW’s plans are for the storied M3 moniker, though it’s likely the new M3 Sedan will remain an M3, while the coupe and convertible versions will be called the M4 Coupe and M4 Convertible respectively.
Prototypes for the so-called M4 Coupe have already been spotted. As for this 4-Series Coupe, which carries the F32 code name, it will be the first 4-Series model to be revealed and is due for a sales launch in the second half of the year. This means we could see the car unveiled at September's 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show. As the concept version showed, the new 4-Series Coupe will be a distinctively stylish and well balanced car. The prototype seen here shows very similar proportions to the outgoing 3-Series Coupe and it looks like the gaudy bumpers on the concept version have been dropped in favor of more conventional units. In line with BMW’s more aggressive design language, the grille of the new 4-Series Coupe is significantly larger than we’ve seen on past models. The headlights, just like on the 3-Series, will stretch towards the sides of the grille, and under this will be a wide air dam. A similar look will feature on the next-generation X5 SUV.
For the engine lineup, expect the same 328i and 335i designations from the sedan to filter across to the coupe. This means a 240 horsepower 2.0-liter turbo in the 428i and a 300 horsepower 3.0-liter turbo in the 435i model. Transmission choices should include a standard six-speed manual and optional eight-speed automatic, and xDrive all-wheel drive is expected to be available too. Inside, the layout will be the same as that in the 4-Series Coupe concept, which in turn is similar to the design found in the 3-Series. Premium options will include exclusive material choices and BMW Individual personalization options. Expect plenty of leather, wood and Alcantara surfaces. This interior shot also reveals the shape of the car's new Hofmeister kink. As mentioned, a 2014 BMW 4-Series Convertible is also in the works, spy shots of which you can view here. 2014 BMW 4-Series Coupe Spy Shots (With Interior).
